Abstract:The effect of vertical and torsional springing phenomena of open ships like a riverseagoing ship have been one of significant issues in the research of ultimate strength and fatigue analysis since this type of ship sails in both Yangtze River and offshore which confronts various wave conditions. Under such situation, the natural frequency can be equal or multiple of the encounter frequency which can excite the resonant vibration easily. However up to now, the analysis normally focuses on vertical bending vibration around the world while torsional vibrations with openings have not been paid enough attention. The available springing experiments considering coupled vertical and torsional moment in oblique waves are rare. A series of segmented model tests are conducted in regular wave under the simulation of both fluid and dynamic structural characteristics. The U sectional backbone was designed to accommodate the vertical stiffness as well as torsional stiffness. The wave component and high order component of moment results were extracted and analyzed in various velocities. And the symmetrical and antisymmetrical modes of vibration of riverseagoing ship were investigated.
