An experimental study on the seismic performance of welded closed stirrup concrete columns

Abstract:Through low cyclic horizontal loading tests on 12 welded closed stirrup concrete columns, the failure patterns, hysteresis curves, the skeleton curves were measured, and the ductility ratios, energy dissipation capacity, strength degradation ratio were analyzed as well.The results show that, with the increase of the shear span ratio, the ultimate bearing capacity of the specimen decreases.With the increase of the ratio of axial compression, the bearing capacity and ductility of the specimen increases.With the increase of the volume-stirrup ratios, the ultimate bearing capacity of the specimen increases, the ductility and energy dissipation capacity increases also.A series of drift limit for the four different seismic performance level are recommended based on the test results.
