Abstract:The dropping simulation and design improvement of a washing machine are realized based on the FEM (Finite Element Method) analysis. An initial design model for a washing machine is established using the CAD software Unigraphics. Then the FE model is set up and the dropping analysis is performed on the design model by applying the software Abaqus. The simulation results show that wrinkling and deformation will occur on the frame part in the process of dropping. The predicted results are in good agreement with the experimental ones. The initial design of the washing machine is modified and the analysis is performed again. The improved design model possesses enough strength and has passed the physical dropping experiment. This ‘Simulation-Based’ design approach provides a new and effective way for the new product design in the field of household electric appliances.
