Abstract:The long span continuous steel beam bridge, which the damping ratio was low and the structure was flexible, was apt to vortex induced vibration. Based on Chongqi long span continuous beam bridge, the large scale aeroelastic model of the completed bridge had been designed and manufactured. By the wind tunnel test, vortex induced vibration in the model, which was under the uniform flow, was observed. Besides, the mechanism that led to two main vortex vibration zones of separate twin box girder was analyzed. Also the additional damping was implemented to reduce the vortex induced vibration. The results provided a reference for the wind-resistant design of large span continuous beam bridge.
