The Marman clampband joint, which is made of several V-segments held by two tensioned straps, is widely used in the aerospace industry to connect and disconnect the launch vehicles and satellites. To investigate the dynamic characteristics of Marman clampband joint, the contact forces between the components of Marman clampband joint and the relationship between them are analyzed. By replacing these contact forces with equivalent element node loads, the Marman clampband joint is incorporate into formal finite element model. The dynamic equations of structures containing Marman clampband joint are nonlinear differential equations which are solved by the Newmark's direct integration method. Finally, a standard Marman clampband joint is analyzed as an example to verify the proposed method. The nonlinear dynamic characteristics of Marman clampband joint and the influence of pretension are discussed.
