The output behaviors of two electrical bridges of instrumented wheel-set was studied based on Finite Element Method and Improved Empirical Mode Decomposition. The FE model of instrumented wheel-set was built, boundary conditions and load were applied, and the elastic strain of wheel disc and the output of electrical bridges were calculated. In the improved EMD method, the mean of extreme points’ envelopes were replaced by the improved extremum field mean, the boundary wave matching algorithm was adopted to restrain the end effect and the difference operation and cumulative sum was performed to separate mixed modes. The output signals of electrical bridges were decomposed by improved EMD method, and then harmonic components were extracted and analyzed. The results show: Low frequency && large amplitude harmonic components are dominant in the output of electrical bridge GB5595-85; High frequency && small amplitude harmonic components are dominant in the output of the best bridge; the best bridge can effectively reduce low frequency && large amplitude harmonic components and so it is of higher precision.
