The transverse feed system of a large CNC machine tool is investigated. The mechanical and mathematical models about the system containing friction and transmission stiffness are established. And the influences of the variance of the static and kinematic friction and the transmission stiffness on the outputs of the worktable are analyzed by numerical simulations. A few of possible conditions for the stick-slip occurrence of the worktable are obtained. The rationality of the theory analysis is proved by the field experiment results of the transverse feed system of the large CNC machine tool. The work in this paper can provide a research basis for the improvement of the stability and machining accuracy of feed systems
