The performance of single acoustic dyadic sensor (ADS) in the isotropic noise field is analyzed in the paper. The covariance matrix of the ADS outputs in the isotropic noise field is deduced and two beamforming methods based on single ADS are analyzed. On the basis of these analyses, the formulas of the processing gain of two beamformers are derived. The simulation results indicate that the ADS have better directivity and bigger processing gain with small package. The processing gain of conventional beamformer (CBF) based on single ADS is between 5.23dB and 6.12dB, and that of the minimum variance distortionless response (MVDR) beamformer based on single ADS is about 9.54 dB and its maximum is 10.8dB.
