Abstract:To obtain the shock absorption characteristics of the viscous fluid damper, a non-Newtonian fluid damper is designed and made, and then Shock tests are carried for it under various height conditions. For analysis of the damping mechanism from aspect of fluid dynamics, modified power law function is use to describe the viscosity of silicone oil, and parameters in the formula is determined by the measured viscosity values under various shear rates. CFD software FLUENT is adopted, while dynamic meshing technology is using, to obtain characteristics of the damping force under shock conditions. By comparing the results from experiments and simulations, it can be found that both results can approximately match each other and can be used to guide the damper design.
