Aiming at improving the erosion effect of jet, the pulsed air-water jet (PAWJ) has been formed by entraining and mixing the air in the self-excited oscillation pulsed jet (SEOPJ), the erosion volume and depth of PAWJ can be measured and compared with that of SEOPJ by the use of concrete. In addition, the influence of air injection method on erosion effect is studied experimentally. The results are found as follows: The erosion volume of PAWJ firstly increases with the increase of target distance and then decreases, namely there exist a peak value, and the position of which is smaller than that for SEOPJ. The erosion depths of the two jets have a linear decrease as the increase of target distance. The erosive volume of PAWJ is superior to that of SEOPJ in the case of suitable cavity length, the maximum improvement can be achieved up to 91.7% with cavity length of 3mm. However the erosion depths of two jets have hardly been influenced by the cavity length, and the differences between them are slight with target distance. The results also show that the arrangements of air exit ports have quite an effect on erosion volume, but slight effect on the erosion depth.
