Road spectrum data of representing regional road overall roughness plays an important role in automotive design and development, but the current lack of access to typical road spectrum. To solve this problem, a method of generating typical road spectrum was proposed, and this method consisted of three main steps which include typical sections selection and measurement, typical road spectrum calculation and filtering and typical road spectrum extraction. Then for example, using road surface data in Beijing area, the typical road spectrum were generated, and the generation results show that the typical road spectrum can represent characteristics of the actual road conditions. This method has clear engineering significance and obvious effect, can be widely applied to the field of automotive engineering and road engineering.
