Experimental Study on Mechanical Properties of Three Kinds of Three-dimensional Base Isolation and Overturn Resistance Devices
Abstract There is less kind of structural three-dimensional base isolator, and the existent bearings do not have the ability of overturn resistance. In view of this, three kinds of three-dimensional base isolation and overturn resistance devices (3D-BIORD) were developed. The basic idea is that horizontal isolation sub-devices and vertical isolation sub-devices of these bearings are connected in series in the vertical direction, considering the demand of overturn resistance of the whole device. The difference of three kinds of bearings is adopting different vertical isolation sub-devices, including ring spring bearing, disk spring bearing and thick rubber bearing. Press-shear tests of horizontal isolation sub-devices, also called pull resistance rubber bearings (PRRB), were carried out using electro-hydraulic servo press-shear machine. Vertical property tests of PRRBs and vertical isolation sub-devices were performed using electronic universal testing machine. Test results show that PRRBs have the anticipated capacities of overturn resistance and displacement restriction, and their primary properties aren’t changed. Vertical isolation sub-devices have enough bearing capacity and proper stiffness. Loading frequency has no influence on properties of spring bearings.
