Abstract

A novel two-degree of freedoms ultrasonic motor was proposed in this paper. The motor is composed of an obelisk stator and a base with a concave spherical surface. The stator is pressed in contact to the concave spherical surface of the base by means of an opportune pre-pressure system. It is easy to miniaturize the motor, because the operating modes of the motor has utilized the local flexural vibrations but the longitudinal vibrations. The ellipse motion of the top of the stator observed using simulation with FEM (finite element method) can make the stator move when the top is pressed on the concave spherical surface of the base. The performance characteristics achieved by the prototype are: the speed without load 145mm/s along x-direction, the speed without load 180mm/s along y-direction, the stall thrust 4.3N along x-direction,the stall thrust 5.0N along y-direction.
