Abstract

The rotary-mode shear MR damper was designed and manufactured to meet larger continuously adjustable damping force and unrestricted displacement. The Boltzmann function formulation of relationship between the peak of coulomb friction damping force of MR damper and its input current was investigated based on mechanical properties test results of MR damper. The time history of MR damping force, the relationship of MR damping force and displacement, the relationship between MR damping force and velocity, the impact of vibration frequencies and amplitudes, the impact of input current were analyzed. By comparing experimental analysis of damping force time history, relation of damping force and displacement, and relation of damping force and velocity, with Boltzmann function analysis of those, it was further proved that Bingham model based on Boltzmann function was reasonable..
