Abstract

The cable dome composed of cables and struts is a new type of cable-strut system whose stiffness is provided by prestress. To investigate the structural behavior after one cable (strut) ruptures, dynamic method was adopted to simulate the process of cable rupture. The variety of internal force of other members and final equilibrium position of the structure after failure of different members was investigated. The safety of the structure was evaluated by observing if the rupture of local cable causes slack of other cables and large displacement. The ability of anti-continuous collapses of the structure was judged by observing whether the rupture of local cable (strut) causes progressive failure of other members. The safety grade of members in different position was also distinguished. The work here would benefit the normal service and maintenance of cable domes.
