Abstract

To further enhance the seismic performance of isolated elevated highway bridge and avoid the excessive displacement of bearing, supplemental vibration control device can be added to work with isolation bearing and form the hybrid control system. Based on the objective of the displacement control, the seismic responses of the simplified linear two-degree-of-freedom bridge model under three different control strategies, namely, optimal passive control, LQR active control, LQR-Clipped MR semi-active control as well as Skyhook MR control, are investigated. The numerical simulation results show that Skyhook control strategy can get close control performance with that of LQR-Clipped control, and Skyhook control also works considerably better than optimal passive control. Moreover, Skyhook control system is simpler and has better practical utility.
