Experimental Study on Vibration Characteristics of a Water-Rich Loess Tunnel Based at a Dedicated Passenger Line
When a high-speed train passes a tunnel, it will result in vibration. Under these conditions, if the tunnel founded on water-rich loess can meet the safety requirements of vibration is a one of the challenges during the construction of the Zhengzhou-to-Xi'an Passenger Dedicated Line, because there is no experience that can be learnt from at home or abroad. To deal with this problem, an experimental study was performed by conducting forced excitation tests simulating the effect of high-speed train. Based on the results of the tests, the variations of the vibration velocity under different excitation frequencies were obtained along the tunnel direction for the upward arch liner structure and along both the horizontal and vertical directions of the upward arch liner filled cross-section. Furthermore, the variations of the vibration velocity within the water-rich loess were also obtained from the tests. The test results show that vibration velocities at both the tunnel structure and the loess are not large. After a comprehensive analysis, it can conclude that the train-induced vibration is not sufficient to have a significant effect on the tunnel and the water-rich loess tunnel can meet the operational requirements of the passenger dedicated line.
