Abstract

Based on the linear wave theory and considering the viscous damper resistance absorbing the wave energy, the one-dimensional dynamics equation is formed for a complex cylinder acting as a wave energy conversion device. Expressions about the amplitude and velocity of the cylinder are deduced from the equation under the free movement (no a damper and no a spring), no damping movement with a invariable spring coefficient, the optimum damping movement with a invariable spring coefficient, the optimum damping movement with a optimum spring coefficient and the movement with a setting working point. Finally, Analytical results of oscillating property of the cylinder are given for some examples. Numerical calculation indicates that the natural frequency of the cylinder varies with the incident wave frequency and it should be according to the working point set whether the spring is selected.
