Abstract

The vibrational frequency f and the container width L influence on the convective motion of granules in vertically vibrated quasi-two-dimensional vessel. The experimental result shows: The number of convection rolls and the direction of the convective motion is strongly dependent on the vibrational frequency , and to a lesser extent on container width. The vibrational frequency and the container width both strongly influence on the intensity of convection. At fixed L and the intensity of convection is oscillatory change as f. At fixed f and there is a critical container width Lc . The intensity of convection is increased when L< Lc,and the intensity of convection is decreased when L> Lc.
