Abstract

In meizoseismal forces, the base-isolated building could be pounded with adjacent buildings, when the horizontal displacement of bearings is too large. A nonlinear Hertz-damp impact element of contact element approach in the form of spring and dashpot is used to model the adjacent building. The equations of motion for structural pounding system are set up and studied the influences of the impact on the isolated structure and non-isolated structure. Then it is carried out the analyses of parameters. The results show that the impact on the base-isolated structure of every-floor acceleration has an obviously magnifying effect. However, the superstructure of protection is still effective.
