Abstract

Based on the theories of mode synthesis and mode superposition, human-induced vibration of pedestrian suspension corridor in Shanghai Hongqiao railway station was analyzed using general finite element software combined with self-compiling program. Three different load models were developed to investigate the dynamical effects induced by people in the corridor. Model one is a single person load model given by BS5400, model two is regular crowd loads, and model three considers random crowd loads. The results show that the method given by BS5400 is suitable for estimation of structure response, when the step frequency of walking is far away from the fundamental frequency of the structure. Otherwise the regular crowd loads or the random crowd loads model should be adopted according to the probability of synchronization of crowds. Moreover, it indicates that among all the factors of human force affecting the acceleration response of the corridor, the step frequency is most significant, next comes the dynamic load factor (DLF) and the probability of synchronization of pedestrian , and final is the density of crowd. The comfort evaluation of the pedestrian corridor was conducted using ISO10137’s method, the results show that its vibration serviceability is not so good in"running case" and in “walking case” with step frequency close to the fundamental frequency of the structure.
