Abstract

The damping of machine joints, which is a structural damping, results from joint surfaces rubbing with each other. A machine joints model based on structural damping was advanced. The dynamic characteristics of machine joints were simulated by the model with equivalent stiffness and structural damping. Experiments were performed to verify the new model. Modal testing of the specimen was carried out with the help of DASP system. The parameters of the model were identified based on the data from complex eigenvalue analysis and modal testing. The small errors between the results of FEM model with the identified parameters and those of the modal testing show that the machine joints model is capable of describing the dynamic characteristics of machine joints when feasible parameters of the model are set up.
