Optimization Detachable Anchor Deviceof Rolling W-beam Type Guardrail Terminal

Abstract

The convrntional rolling W-beam type guardrail terminal usually cannot absorb full energy of test car and the acceleration of test car in impact direction often cannot meet the requirement of evaluation specification. Optimization research was done based on finite element simulation analysis and physical tests. The analysis result gives out an updated detachable anchor device, with which, the acceleration of test car deduces from 38g to 11.9g in impact direction, the ability of energy absorption increases obviously, and all the indexes meet the requirement of evaluation specification. The simulation results match the test results and prove the models credible. Optimized guardrail terminal is able to deduce accident severity increase make passengers’safety.
