Abstract

Blasting operation can result ground vibration and which can further excite the building vibration. An evaluation of the vibration effects on surrounding buildings is often required before and/or after a blasting operation. This paper analyzes a typical case to explain the evaluation procedure. Through observing the cracks of the building and recording the histories of ground vibration velocities and building vibration accelerations of the nearest site, it is found that the vibrations have no damage effects on the buildings but they can seriously annoy the occupants. It’s a typical vibration serviceability problem so that human vibration standard and vibration dose value (VDV) are introduced to analyze the impact level and impact range of blasting induced vibration.
