Abstract
Face-gear transmission is more and more used in the high-speed and high-power transmission systems as a new transmission method. In order to improve the face gear’s functional reliability it is significant to analyze the nonlinear dynamic characteristics of face-gear transmission system. Then a nonlinear dynamic model of a face-gear transmission system is presented. This model includes bearings, backlash, time-varying meshing stiffness, general transmission error, meshing damping, and external load, etc. The PNF(Poincaré-Newton-Floquet) method is used to solve the dynamic differential equations. The calculation results show that the windows of the chaotic responses and the period responses will appear alternately. Four kinds of steady state responses, i. e. harmonic, non-harmonic, sub-harmonic, quasi-periodic and chaotic responses, are obtained for different parameters. The amplitudes of dynamic-load coefficients with different dynamic responses alter very largely, so the system’s dynamic responses should be kept in the periodic windows by adjusting the system’s rotate speed.
