Abstract

Abstract: Naval ship will take on more and more offshore mission in future. As a result, research on ship vulnerability in the offing becomes more important. Steel sandwich plate is a new type of sandwich structure. To understand its blast-resistance, the dynamic responses of both steel plate and steel sandwich plate with the same mass suffer proximity underwater explosion loading are simulated with finite element method. The calculation results accord with experimental phenomenon. Results of the study indicate that the deflection-resistance and energy absorption capability of steel sandwich plate are better than that of original steel plate, especially its competence on keeping integrity of structure. Steel sandwich plate can be introduced into the innovation and design of medium and small sized ship to improve stiffness of structure, ship vulnerability and reduce welding.
