Abstract: Controlling the volume displacement of vibration plate has previously been shown to be a good strategy to reduce its overall sound radiation .With the examples of the clamped-clamped plate, a new piezoelectric sensor design is presented to measure the vibrating volume displacement. An array of rectangular segments of PVDF film attached on the surface of the plate is taken as sensor. The output signals of the PVDF films are multiplied by appropriate weights so that the weighted combinations of the output directly lead to the vibrating volume displacement. It is shown that the array sensors design not only is independent of the external excitation properties such as type, magnitude, position, and etc. but also it can be applied for vibrating plates with arbitrary boundary conditions. In addition, the influencing factors and adaptability of the array sensors are shown.
