Abstract

In order to do feasibility analysis of barrier safety evaluation with finite element simulation method, various vehicle and barrier finite element simulation models were set up and compared to multiple physical test data. The results indicates that all barrier safety index such as test vehicle trajectory, safety barrier performance, occupant risk and barrier dynamic deformation can be extracted from simulation result, the reliability of simulation models are proved for the crash results in simulation is coincident with that in test and the error is less than 10% between them, and the feasibility of barrier safety evaluation with computer simulation methods is proved. The concept that simulation model to evaluate barrier safety performance must pass crash test checking is stressed and the suggestion that regulations and guidelines on CAE engineers engaged in barrier simulation evaluation is brought out.
