Abstract

Heat transfer enhancement is achieved by flow-induced vibration in elastic tube bundles heat exchangers. To a further study of heat transfer enhancement mechanism and tube structure optimum, it is of importance to study the vibration characteristics of fluid-structure interaction of heat transfer element. Helical tube bundle is a new type elastic heat transfer element. Because of its helical structure, the inside flow of helical tube has a deep influence on its vibration characteristics due to the coriolis force damp. The FEM is used in this paper to study the vibration characteristic of the helical tube with inside flow. The element matrix and tube vibration equation are achieved by the regulation of different spiral angle and coordinate transformation and also the simplification of the connector of the two pipes. The influence of coriolis force damp on the tube vibration characteristics is analyzed. The result shows that the 1st mode frequency decreased acutely because of inside flow of helical pipe. The spiral pipe shows complex mode shape due to the coriolis force damp, and the damping ratio is relative both to the helical pitch winding and the inside flow of the spiral helical tube.
