Abstract

Through wind tunnel tests in smooth and turbulent flows, the vortex-induced vibration responses of large-span steel arch rib rectangular aeroelastic model are investigated. Three kinds of attack angles (-3º, 0º, +3º), multiple yaw angles (0º~90º) cases are incorporated. The results show that: in smooth flows, stable 1st anti-symmetric vertical bending and symmetric vertical bending vortex vibration can be observed, which are not found in turbulent flows. The 1st anti-symmetric vertical bending vortex vibration amplitude is very small, with low wind speed and narrow lock-in area. Whereas the 1st symmetric vertical bending vortex vibration amplitude is large, with higher wind speed and wider lock-in area. Vortex vibration amplitude at 1/4 section is greater than that of the vaulted section. When the yaw angle is greater than 10º, vortex vibration does not appear for the rectangular rib.
