Abstract

A finite element model, in which the influence of inertial load was concerned, was introduced for the dynamic meshing analysis of spiral bevel gears based on the theory of dynamics and Lagrange multiplier constraints. The influences of inertial load on the dynamic meshing characteristics were discussed. The result shows that the bigger the inertial load, the bigger the contact force. The inertial load also affects the width of the meshing zone, tooth contact stress and the location of the maximum contact stress. These validate that the inertial load must be taken into account in the dynamic contact analysis of spiral bevel gears.
