Abstract

Considering the dynamical characteristic of structure under different earthquake hazard level, inelastic demand curves, namely, inter-story shear versus inter-story displacement curve are established by using mode spectrum method. And then taking into account the capacity curves of structures, a new method named inter-story capacity spectrum is put forward for the performance based seismic evaluation of vertically irregular frame structures. An example is presented to explain how to make use of the method and to demonstrate the applicability and utility of the proposed method. It is concluded that the new method can availably identify the soft story of the structure, estimate the displacement of stories under different earthquake hazard action and comparing to the result of capacity spectrum method, it is superior to capacity spectrum method
