Abstract

A general summary and review of state-of-the-art of vibration-based RC structural damage detection is firstly presented. Various disadvantages of damage detection methods are abstracted, such as low sensitivity, inability of non-linear analysis, limitation of application scope, incomplete validation methods and unreasonable numerical-simulation. Then, the thought of dissipative structure and information entropy theory are introduced into the study of concrete damage detection based on the analysis of feasibility on the theory and technology and through establishing the information entropy index, the disorder extent of system’s damage is presented. Furthermore, it is showing a great potential in following areas: optimal arrangement of sensor location and identification of damage location and extent, as well as treatment of damage. Therefore, information entropy theory is probably a promising method for partly improving damage identification technology, as well as supporting scientific evidence and technical support in construction and operation of Structural Health Monitoring system
