Research on Calculation Model of Impact Effect of River Ice on Pier

Abstract

Adopting the explicit dynamical analysis software package LS-DYNA, the calculation model of collision effect between river ice and pier is studied. The simplified constitutive relation of river ice is proposed, and the finite element analysis model of contact-impact effect of ricer ice on pier is established. Effects of contact type and arithmetic, mesh density of ice sheet, mesh density of pier in contact area are discussed, and the calculation results on impact force are compared with the measured ones. The conclusions can be drawn as follow: It is feasible that solid164 element is adopted for floating ice elements and the pier elements in contact area. Linear elastic material model as well as failure criteria of the maximum flexural-tensile stress can be apt for river ice impact analysis. The automatic surface to surface contact type and the symmetrical penalty function algorithms are appropriate for the calculation model of impact force of river ice. The collision force will be largely influenced by element size of ice drifting located at a distance near the contact area and the mesh density of the pier in contact area have more influence on the collision force, so it is important to rationally choose the element size. A new method for the collision force analysis between river ice and pier has been provided and it is very important in theory and practice to improve calculation method of collision force between river ice and pier
