Abstract

The vibration acceleration time history from the cutter holder was separated into three parts that were chatter free, transition and chatter processes. The reconstructed attractor and probability density distribution of vibration acceleration time series were studied in order to observe the view of a system’s behavior in geometric form. And the Lyapunov exponent and Kolmogrov entropy were given for helping on judgment of cutting state. Meanwhile, the relation curves of the Lyapunov exponent and entropy versus machining parameters were plotted and discussed. The research shows that Lyapunov exponent and Kolmogrov entropy are toned up when the amplitude of vibration acceleration time history goes up from chatter free, transition and chatter. In addition, the relation curves of the Lyapunov exponent and entropy versus machining parameters go with the same and look like stability lobes. We can select the optimal machining parameters for decreasing the uncertainty of cutting vibration based on corresponding to the experimental data.
