Abstract

Abstract: Since the frame hinge mechanisms of the plenty of the existing prestressed concrete frame structure (PC frame structure) which were designed based on the 89 code were story sway mechanisms, in order to improve the seismic resistance of this kind of structures, this article did a shaking table test on a 1:7.2 reduced scale model of a modified 3 story-2 bay PC frame structure to research its seismic behavior. The results indicated that the strengthened side columns’ damage was postponed and the breakage was dispersed in every stories, the combined hinges yield mechanism of the structure could be accomplished and the seismic resistance of the PC frame structure was improved. Compared to the El Centro and Taft, the model responded more severely during the input of Chi-Chi. El Centro triggered higher-mode effects compared to other stimulations.
