Abstract

Abstract: By means of an explicit nonlinear dynamic finite element computer code LS-DYNA,the nonlinear dynamic response process in a steel-pipe subjected to contact explosion loading were numerically simulated with Lagrangian-Eulerian coupling method. The deformation shape, damage process and evolution of Von-mises stress in pipe were described, and the effects of the explosive mass and pipe thickness to steel-pipe's damage extent were analyzed. Experiment research was also done in the same condition, and the numerical simulation results were in good agreement with experimental data. The study on this problem indicates the pit, bump and spallation would happen when the explosive mass is small. However, the fly fragment like EFP (Explosively Formed Projectile) would be shaped due to shear failure if the explosive mass is large , and could perforate the opposite side of the pipe because of the abundant kinetic energy carried by the fly fragments. The method can be applied to the engineering prediction of the damage or safety of the pipes under explosive and can provide theory reference for safety design.
