Abstract

For the bridges with 60m、90m pier height, yield, ultimate displacements, displacement ductility and curvature distribution
on the critical state are determined with the incremental dynamic analysis(IDA) and Pushover method considering the fundamental
mode(MPA). After analyzing the results from IDA and MPA, higher modes effect on pier ductility is evaluated in different earthquake.
Curvature distribution on piers in different earthquake are described to point out that under strong earthquake plastic hinge develop in
the middle and upper part of pier except in the base of pier. Capacity diagram and demand diagram are developed to identify the
plastic degree of higher mode respectively on different critical state, which are used to verify that the occurrence of plastic hinge in
middle and upper part of pier is attributed to the second mode.

Key words
