Abstract

The bearing characteristic frequencies contain very little energy when the early fault occurs, and are usually overwhelmed by noise. They are difficult to find in their frequency spectra when using the second order cyclic statistics analysis. To overcome this difficulty, the cyclic bispectrum (CBS) based on the third cyclic cumulants has been used to the fault diagnosis. However, the cyclic spectrum is forth- dimensional. The express of the cyclic spectrum is difficult. And the calculating amount is big. So the twice slice of the CBS, a simplified approach for defecting localized faults in the outer races of a rolling element bearing, is discussed in this paper. Simulation and experiment of the rolling element bearing fault diagnosis are performed, and the results indicate the feasibility and validity of the twice slice analysis in rolling element bearing early fault diagnosis.
