Abstract

The characteristics of debris cloud, which was generated by the various shapes of projectiles impacting on the continuous bumper and mesh shield, were investigated using the numerical simulation method. The study shows: the performance of the multilayer meshes shield is better than it of the continuous bumper with the same area density. The effect of tip or bottom of cone impact on the bumper is greater than the effect of the length-to-diameter ration for the continuous bumpers, but the result is reversed for the mesh shield. For the long cone, when the tip impacting the continuous bumper, the distribution of momentum density is symmetry, distribution range is more smaller, and the maximum of momentum density is greater than it of the projectile impacting the mesh shield.
