Abstract

Expo culture center is one of the permanent buildings in Expo 2010 Shanghai. The main structure composes of 36 hoop cantilever steel trusses with different length and inner frames made of rectangle CFST members. The sixth storey steel structure cantilevered floor easily cause human-induced vibration problem. A large amount of analysis and field tests on the Expo culture center which tuned mass dampers were used to reduce human-induced vibration. The results show that the resonance frequencies of each structural axis are between 2.0Hz and 3.5Hz. The vertical vibration of structure is very small and TMD has no influence on reducing vibration when people walk normally in frequency 2.0Hz. When people rapidly walk or run in structural resonance frequency, TMD can reduce structural vertical vibration about 15% effectively. It can be reference for study on serviceability of space structure with long cantilever and human-induced vibration control by using TMD
