Abstract

The contact-impacts between balls and the ball-returner in running process causes the noise of the ball screw mechanism, and it lead to decrease of the service life of the ball screw mechanism. In order to solve this problem, the contact-impact dynamic model between ball and the returner is proposed, and a new evaluation index of recirculation fluency of ball-chain in ball returner is introduced. Based on this analysis, a new double arc profile of ball is presented, and the optimums of the geometric parameters are obtained based on genetic algorithm. The results proved that the optimal solution can not only decrease the contact-impact force between balls and returner but also make the recirculation of the ball-chain smoother. The double arc profile of the ball-returner and optimum method can be applied to the design of other types of ball returner.
