Abstract

Currently, the calculation methods of the general transmission tower are not suitable to the ultra-high voltage (UHV) transmission towers which have large height as well as large span. Therefore, the wind-induced response can only be found out if the towers are on the flat wind terrain fields, but the characteristics of the hilly terrain wind field are distinct from the flat terrain wind field due to the interference of the hills. In this work, three hilly terrains are researched by the wind tunnel test. The effects of varies of hilly conditions are considered in the research, such as 8 different slopes, 3 different heights and 3 kinds of occlusion distances between two hills. Furthermore, the modified formula of topographic effects is proposed after researching on the variations of the average wind speed and the fluctuating wind speed of the 3 hilly terrains models. Also, based on the test data and proposed model of hilly terrain, the dynamic response of UHV transmission tower-line coupled system in different hilly terrains is calculated by finite element theory. And through the dynamic response of UHV transmission tower-line coupled system, the dynamic reliability of transmission tower is calculated by stochastic structure’s dynamic reliability method respectively. At last, the dynamic reliability variations of windward, forward and the crest under three kinds of hilly terrain is obtained.
