Abstract

Drop weight equipment together with a purpose-built furnace were used to experimentally study the behavior of concrete-filled steel tubular (CFT) beams in fire. The influences of fire duration time, impact energy on the impact resistance of CFT beams in fire were discussed. The temperature versus time relationships of core concrete and steel tube surface, the force and lateral deformation versus time history relationships of the tested specimens, the residual lateral deformations were measured. The test results show that CFT beam in fire has an excellent impact resistance. The degree of bending and plastic zone of the specimens increased with the increasing of fire duration time, but reduced obviously with decreasing of impact energy. The ultimate force increased with the increasing of fire duration time, but reduced with decreasing of impact energy. The experimental results can be used to evaluate the anti-collapse resistance and design of CFT beams.
