Abstract

This study develops a procedure which couples the finite element method with doubly asymptotic approximation (DAA) method to study the problem of transient responses of a full-scale surface ship model subjected to an underwater explosion bubble. The theory of interaction between a gas bubble and a ship hull structure is presented. A bubble model with the bubble migration, free surface effect and drag force taken into consideration and an surface ship hull model are established. The global and local responses of the ship model are performed. The acceleration, velocity and displacement time histories are presented. The characteristics of both the global and local responses of the ship model subjected to an underwater explosion bubble are discussed in detail.
