Abstract

The dynamic behavior of multi-span continuous curved bridges under heavy trucks are investigated, the bridges are discretized by triple-beam model and the trucks are simulated as 12 DOFs models. The inverse fast Fourier transformation is applied to generate road irregularity and its velocity term of grade B according to the power spectral density of road roughness. The impact effects in various posittion of curved bridges under multi-vehicle action and different velocities are investigated considering bridge damping using separate iteration method based on ANSYS. The analytical results show that the number of lateral loading lanes has great effect on the fulcrum and the mid-span torques, negative bending moment and the bending moment of the top pier section maximum impact factors, while it has little effect on the maximum displacement impact factor of the girder and axial force impact factor of the pier. The number of longitudinal loading vehicles has significant influence on bridge impact effects, and the impact factors increase with increasing space headway while the corresponding maximum responses decrease. The presented results can be used in the design of continuous curved box girder bridges.
