Abstract

The nonlinear dynamic behaviors and stability of a multi-disk rotor supported by oil lubricated journal bearings with coupling misalignment is analyzed. The dynamic responses of the system with and without coupling misalignment are obtained using numerical integration method and comparative analysis is made. Spectra plots, Bifurcation diagrams, orbits, Poincaré maps and largest Lyapunov exponent are utilized to study vibration characteristics and stability of the system. The study shows that misalignment can cause 2X, 3X, 4X or even higher orders of super harmonic resonances. The amplitude of 2X response can be larger than that of the 1X response, and the amplitude decreases as the distance between the measuring points to the coupling increases. The study suggested that coupling misalignment can delay the occurrence of oil whip
