Abstract

Based on drop shock test, nonlinear dynamics constitutive relation of Polyethylene foam is established and the parameters in the formula are identified successfully; then the constitutive relation of the foam is used in the multi-DOF packaging system of Polyethylene foam, and the dynamics formula is constructed under the given height. Based on response acceleration of the items smaller than the allowable value and minimal material consumption of polyethylene, the object optimization function of the cushion package structure is determined. The optimization solutions of multi-DOF packaging cushion system are obtained by the optimization model; based on the optimization results, the response accelerations of the falling masses in the packaging system are tested. The numerical results in this paper show that the relative errors between measured and calculated values of the response accelerations are less than 0.8% so that the model can be used to directly designing cushioning packaging structure, and avoid excessive or less packaging. This method is effect because the maximum acceleration-static stress curves cannot be available in designing cushioning packaging. The methods and process can be meaningful to cushioning design, and also provide relevance for other cushion packaging material.
