Abstract

Formulas of unit wind energy at any height, wind input energy of each story and total input energy of the structure were deduced and proposed according to energy balance principle in this paper. All the input energy was assumed to be dissipated by dampers, such as viscous and viscoelastic dampers. The total output energy was then calculated according to dissipation energy of all dampers in elastic condition. The structural design flow of energy-based wind vibration control was therefore advanced in the light of relationship between the input energy and output energy. A high-rise building was adopted as an example to verify the feasibility and rationality of the advanced energy-base design method. The results show that the proposed method can be used reasonably as wind-resistant design method of controlled buildings and better control effects can be achieved.
