Abstract

Using the waveguide finite element method, the propagation and the attenuation of axial wave in the sound absorption coating which contains periodic resonant cavities have been obtained. For the case of elliptic cylindrical cavity, and assuming the same perforation ratio, the effect of cavity geometry on the acoustic performance of sound absorption coating has been summarized both by the axial wave propagating characteristic and by the wave-mode transformation phenomenon respectively. The waveguide finite element method (WFEM) and the transfer method (TM) are combined to model the acoustic performance of sound absorption coating which contains periodic deformed cavities, and the WFEM-TM method has been validated by compared with the two-dimensional analytic method based on the case of periodic conical cavities. Furthermore, the acoustic performance of coating containing periodic elliptic conical cavities has been discussed.
